At Groceryships, we are always on the lookout for ways to eat healthier at lower costs. We analyzed what the health and price differences would be for a family of 4 over the course of 1 year, to eat Oatmeal vs Cinnamon Toast Crunch (which is delicious, let's face it!).
The results are staggering:
|Cinnamon Toast Crunch||Oatmeal|
|Cost Per Package||$3.09||$3.89|
|# of Bowls (2 cups)||3.5||15|
|# of containers per year||417||97|
|Total Cost Per Year||$1,289||$379|
|Total Calories Per Container||1950||4500|
|Total Calories Per Year||813,429||438,000|
|Total Sodium Per Year||1,126,286||0|
|Total Sugar Per Year||56,314||2,920|
Cinnamon Toast Crunch is nearly 4x as expensive, has 2x as much calories, probably fills you up less, and crushes you in sodium and sugar. This calculation doesn't even take into consideration that with Oatmeal you probably use less milk, and with Cinnamon Toast Crunch you are way more likely to have 2 bowls than 1 (as I said, it really is delicious).
The sad part is where these two items appear in the grocery store--Cinnamon Toast Crunch right at eye level in a beautiful box; Oatmeal at your feet, almost impossible to see.
(Seriously, though, Cinnamon Toast Crunch tastes good...darn you food companies!)
